Update notes, and a thank you!
Hi there - and thank you!
First and foremost, we would like to thank you VisualImpact for putting on this fun and creative game jam. Restrictions and limitations are the breeding ground for clever and desperate solutions, making do with what you got to make something work in the designated framework.
Our submission, to our surprise, ranked on top. A feat we are humbly proud of and thankful for. It was really interesting to see and play the other submissions. Some of which we hope might have planted a seed for either new ideas, or for continued development of the project itself.
A jam is the perfect setting for a ‘trial by fire’. Seeing what you are capable of doing, especially under pressure. This was the first ‘real’ project, with a clear end goal in sight, we (the two developers) did together. We learned a heck of a lot about how we both work, what our strengths and weaknesses are, and how we should proceed with potential future endeavors.
Anyways, with that out of the way, we did update a few things to deliver a better gaming experience (although from a somewhat flawed foundation, but true to the game jame spirit). Now, unfortunately, I (that being Emil - hi) didn't keep the best record of each thing we either fixed or updated (lesson learned). What you can expect though is improved hit detection (especially for the pumpkins), implemented text for ‘hint pillars’, a short animation to let the player know that the scythes' alt. attack is ready, fixed ‘holes’ in map, additional SFX (pick ups, locked doors, alt. attack being ready, etc), a damage indicator (subtle red flash), a HUD with stats and info, new font for HP, improved pacing of the cutscenes, etc.
This is probably the only update we will make for this. After all, the game was made just for the jam, and there's a lot of things we would do differently from the top if we were to develop it further.
Keep in touch though, who knows what comes next! And please, let us know what you think post update.
Keep jammin’
